The Code of Ethics is an initiative of the business community through Kenya Association of Manufacturers to promote and enhance ethics in the conduct of business in Kenya. The code is based on the ten principles of the UN Global Compact deriving from the areas of Human Rights, Labour Standards, Environment and Anti-corruption. The Company not only implements this code but also expects business partners to likewise adhere to it and does not replace, but complements, the Company’s Codes of Ethics.
We, the Business Community, recognise that ethical business brings about good business. As good corporate citizens, we commit to treating our stakeholders with respect, to run our businesses with responsibility, to act in compliance with applicable laws, and to be actively involved in corruption prevention. It is our intention, as an organization, to live up to the spirit of the Code of Ethics for business in Kenya and conduct our business in an environment that is ethically sound.
Karania Packers was established in the late 1960’s as a salt packaging and baking powder manufacturer. Karania packers grew steadily and ventured into producing cooking fats and edible oils. As a result, it became to be known as Kapa Oil Refineries Ltd.
1960s
In addition to the cooking oils and edible oils, Kapa started manufacturing a premium detergent powder, Toss - that took the detergent powder market by storm. Toss has been and still is the market leader in the detergent powder category.
1980s
With continual research and development, Kapa saw opportunities in the FMCG industry and proceeded to manufacture different varieties of laundry soap bars, followed by margarine, glycerine and luxury toilet soaps.
1990s
In keeping with the innovative spirit at Kapa Oil Refineries, we became the first local manufacturer of noodles, introducing the Numi Instant Noodles brand that has 3 flavours which are Numi Chicken BBQ, Numi Chicken PiriPiri and Numi Veg Mchuzi Mix. We also introduced a second variant of Prestige Margarine that is enhanced with Vanilla Flavour, best for spreading and baking purposes.
During this time, Kapa also cemented its commitment to quality by being certified the prestigious ISO 9001:2008 award for its 'Quality Management Systems' in the manufacture of cooking fats, edible oils, margarine, baking powder, laundry soaps and glycerine.
