Control food portions, with the right proportions

We’re all guilty of doing it – heaping our plates with food.
As portions have increased so have the calories.

Studies suggest that people who overeat are likely to become overweight and risk getting a number of medical problems like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes.

We must take cognizance of the portions we eat. But what is Portion Control? Portion Control is choosing to eat a healthy amount of food.

It helps you:

  • Digest food faster
  • Maintain healthy weight
  • Control blood sugar levels and;
  • Stay energized throughout the day

To be more practical, here are some tips that can help us
keep portions under control:

Start meals with a large glass of water
Evidence suggests that drinking water before eating will make you less likely to overeat.

Fill up on greens
Adding veggies to your meals is one easy way to cut calories while filling you up fast.

Use smaller plates
The sizes of plates, spoons and glasses can unconsciously influence how much food someone eat.

Ask for half portions while eating out
In most cases, serving sizes are on average 2.5 times larger than standard one. Ask for half a portion, take home the other portion to eat later.

Eat slowly
