Have A Healthier Happier Christmas

It’s December, and the month is teeming with festivities, from Jamuhuri Day, Christmas, Boxing Day to New Year’s. As we all know, during the festivities, we all tend to overindulge. There’s nothing wrong with that when you do it occasionally.

If we do, we might as well do it the healthy way. Healthy may be a cliche word to many of us and these two words ‘healthy and tasty’ often don’t go hand in hand.  This month, journey with us and follow along as we share some tips with you.

This festive season, try and cook something healthy and tasty, like pan-fried tilapia instead. Here’s a tip ; fry the tilapia with Rinsun cooking oil. It is a healthy alternative cooking oil that is highly recommended and doesn’t contain saturated and trans fats, which are very unhealthy types of fats.

Rinsun cooking oil also has nutrients such as omega 3 and 6. It also contains vitamins and protein which help to strengthen the body’s immune system. This can be a reality for yourself and your family this Christmas season as you celebrate together. So why not do it in a healthy, fun way?

During the Christmas season when you’re craving chicken don’t be quick to jump to some fried chicken. You can have some roasted chicken which is a healthy and tasty way to prepare chicken this festive season. If you must have fried chicken, then fry your chicken with Rinsun oil. This way you will safely have some fried chicken with much less cholesterol. During the festivities, eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, at least 2-3 servings per day. Reduce or eliminate refined or processed carbohydrates; most of the grains in your diet should be whole grains.

Also, restrict or eliminate “junk food” — foods that contain refined white flour, solid fats or trans fats, added sugars, and that are high in sodium. These are not healthy for you. Restrict or eliminate sodas and other sugar-added drinks that are high in calories and contain few or no nutrients. Squeeze juice instead but drink more water.

Choose from a variety of low-fat sources of protein — including eggs, beans, poultry without skin, lean meats, unsalted nuts, seeds, and soy products. If you eat meat, eat white meat. Just because we’re in the festive period, doesn’t mean that you can relax all day. Avoid time spent in sedentary activities, especially watching television. Use your screen-free time working on hobbies, house cleaning, yard work, or engaging in fun activities.

Be active, get moderate physical activity (such as walking, cycling, swimming, or using aerobic exercise machines) for 30 to 60 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week. Exercise helps you rejuvenate.

Enjoy your festivities and remember to stay healthy. Merry Christmas and a happy 2022.
