Let’s Stay Healthy!

March is National Nutrition month. We are all about encouraging you to make informed food decisions so as to develop sound eating and physical activity habits.

Here are 5 health tips that will be helpful in your Wholesome Living journey

  • Eat Breakfast

Begin your morning with a healthy breakfast. Lean protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables should be present in your meal. Try making oatmeal breakfast with the following ingredients: ½ cup oats ½ cup natural yoghurt + ½ cup water + 1 tablespoon chia seeds + ½ cup blueberries. This is highly nutritious and we bet it’s delicious. You could also add peanuts and a banana to add more flavour.

  • Half of your plate should be vegetables

When it comes to lunch and dinner, we are driven to eating more carbs than vegetables and fruits. However, the latter should always be more. This is because they help keep your digestive system regular, keep your bones strong and are generally low in calories and fat and are rich in fibre. Fibre helps you maintain a healthy weight. Fruits and veges are also full of important nutrients like vitamins A and C, and minerals like potassium and magnesium.

Examples of vegetables that are readily available: broccoli, celery, tomatoes, beans, cucumber, cabbage, tomatoes, beetroot, spinach & french beans.

Examples of fruits that are readily available: bananas, apples, pineapples, orange, tangerine, mango, avocado, watermelon & grapes

  • Be Active

Work and no play makes Kingstone a dull boy! Physical activity will improve your health and reduce the risk of developing diseases. Exercise also leaves you feeling energized and improves your overall appearance. Who doesn’t want to look better, anyway?

  • Drink More Water

You know that moment when you are so thirsty you want a soda? And after taking it in you feel so relieved. Quit that. Quench your thirst with water instead of drinks with added sugars. Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Having a water bottle is helpful. Carry it with you always and sip your water as you go on with your daily activities. If you struggle with taking plain water, add some fruits such as lemons, oranges, mint and cucumbers.

  • Explore New Foods and Flavours

Do you sometimes feel like your diet is limited? Most of us are used to consuming wheat, rice and maize/corn only. However, there are more food rages that we never think about. Add more nutrition and eating pleasure by expanding your range of food choices. When shopping, make a point of selecting a fruit, vegetable or whole grain that’s new to you or your family. Google some recipes and with no time, you will discover new flavours!
