Entertaining Kids on a January Budget

The kids are back in school this month. But that does not mean you can forget about keeping them occupied at home; they are home after school, on the weekends and a few are still home-schooling. So here are a few ideas that will turn you into the most entertaining parent ever.

  1. Teach them how to bake – The prospect of being in the kitchen “legally” and actually using the appliances is very exciting to kids. Get them to help you bake and teach them the steps as you go along. You can teach them how to bake cakes, cookies, pastries or even bread. Use Prestige Vanilla margarine instead of butter to take your baking cost down even further. It is just as good. Find out more here: https://www.kapa-oil.com/our-brands/margarine/prestige-margarine/
  2. Create ice sculptures – All you need to make your own beautiful ice sculptures is a range of bowls, tins, cups and other containers. Simply fill them up with water and put them in the freezer. You could even add food colouring to the water (try as many colours as possible). Once frozen, use some warm water to pop the ice from the containers and stack them on top of each other to create your colourful ice sculptures.
  3. Make Playdough at home – Everybody loves playdough no matter their age. You can make it at home with materials you probably have in your cupboard. You will need 2 cups of plain flour, 2 tablespoons of Rina vegetable oil, ½ a cup of salt, 1 ½ cups of boiling water and food colouring. Slowly add the hot water into a mixture of everything else until the consistency feels right. Now you and the kids can go crazy making different models.

Remember to teach and remind your children Covid-19 safety measures. Stay safe.
