We live in a fast-paced world where stress is inevitable. We can’t live without it, but we can find ways to control and manage it.
Stress is a normal reaction that happens to every one of us.
But not all stress is bad, it’s beneficial in keeping us alert, motivated ready to face danger. It becomes harmful
when we face stress without relief or relaxation.
When stressed, your heart rate and breathing changes. It’s a ‘fight-or-flight response that helps the body face stressful situations. However, continued activation of stress can have a long–term effect on the body.
To deal with stress, here are some ways to help you cope:
- If you’re feeling stressed, do some exercise, run, walk, do aerobics or even dance.
- Talk to a friend. A problem shared is a problem half solved. Share you’re your problems with a parent, friend or counsellor.
- Avoid drugs and alcohol. These may seem to help, but they can create additional problems and increase the stress you are already feeling.
- Take a break. If a situation is causing you to be stressed take a break and get back to it later.
- Get at least 8 hours of sleep.
