Love Language

This month of love, we will be sharing the 5 languages of love to help you deeper understand your code of love and how you want to be loved. What’s even better share your results with a partner and get him/her to do the test.

Quality time

Nothing says “I love you” like full, undivided attention. Having the TV off, phone out of sight, work paused and all chores done makes this person feel truly special and loved. Perfect ways to gift this person would be a picnic date or romantic getaway.

Acts of Service

This person is happy when you do something to ease the burden of responsibilities weighing on them. The words he or she most wants to hear are: “Let me do that for you.” Adding work to them without lending a helping hand makes them feel like their feelings don’t matter. Gift ideas for this person include: taking their car for service, preparing breakfast, doing laundry or folding clothes among others.

Words of Affirmation

Actions don’t always speak louder than words for them. Unsolicited compliments like “I love you,” “I am proud of you” “I admire your generosity and drive” mean the world to them. A condescending, contemptuous attitude can leave them shattered and yet they do not easily forget. He/she will thrive on hearing kind and encouraging words that build them up. Examples of gifts to get them would be: a card with a personalized message, a poem just for them or a scrapbook of your love story among others.

Physical Touch

A person whose primary language is physical touch is, not surprisingly, very touchy. Hugs, pats on the back and thoughtful touches on the arm—they can all be ways to show excitement, concern, care, and love. Appropriate and timely touches communicate warmth, security and love to them. You can gift this person with an afternoon out for a couple’s massage.

Receiving Gifts

First off, you should not assume that this person is materialistic. The receiver of gifts thrives on the love, thoughtfulness, and effort behind the gift. If you speak this language, the perfect gift or gesture shows that you are well understood, you are cared for and highly valued. To gift this person, try to get hints of what it is they are desiring at a particular time and surprise them. It could be a piece of art, a book, a new video game etc. For them, it’s the thought that counts.

Can you tell your love language already? If not, go ahead and do a love language test online.
