Athleisure: Style for the 2021 Professional

Athleisure is a contraction of the words “athletic” and “leisure”. It refers to athletic apparel which people can wear in non-athletic settings. The term has now been added to the dictionary and is defined as “casual clothing designed to be worn both for exercise and general use.” Athleisure combines both functionality and comfort. The trend first appeared about 7 or 8 years ago with individuals just being creative and has since grown so big that indie brands are now carving out a niche for themselves in it.

Increasingly, people’s busy and active lifestyles have been demanding comfortable and practical clothes. Now that many are working from home, that demand is rising, and athleisure has become the staple of the 2021 professional.

Athleisure – whether you want to go out on a picnic with friends or take your bicycle out for a ride, your outfit should be able to do it all. It is more than just a trend. It is a shift in lifestyle. It implies both a busy schedule and an increase in health consciousness.

This effortlessly stylish apparel movement is here to stay. However, as free, as rebellious and as disruptive as it sounds, there are some rules on how to wear athleisure. Here are some do’s and don’ts:

  • Do wash all your clothes with Toss detergent for a brighter look and fresher feel. See the different Toss variants here: https://www.kapa-oil.com/our-brands/detergent-brands/toss-blue/
  • Do mix sports pieces with your regular clothes
  • Do mix fabrics like leather and denim with sports fabrics like yoga pants
  • Do follow activewear trends
  • Do not just wear anything old you would wear to the gym
  • Do not overlook the addition of accessories and jewellery
  • Do not go overboard with bright colours and prints

The most important rule of all however, is to enjoy yourself and have fun with your athleisure options.
