Decluttering Your Wardrobe

It happens to the best of us. That moment when you open your wardrobe and can’t figure out what to wear. Sure, it might be full of clothes, but you can’t figure out what you can and can’t wear. It’s time to for the big purge. But how do you decide what stays and what goes? How do you figure out which of your clothes deserve a place in the wardrobe and which should disappear? Here are a few thoughts.

First of all step away from every other distractions, set up a great playlist and let’s juts dive into this. Set up three piles and take a step back. We have the keep pile, the throw away pile and the “I’m not sure” pile.

The keep pile should be the easiest one. This one has the clothes you love. The outfits that define your style. The ones that make the workdays bearable and the weekends bearable. It should be unmistakable here. The clothes that make you shine. That bring color to your world. But make sure they have been worn in the last 3 months to confirm that they still fit and that you love them beyond some sentimental value.

The throw away pile is not as easy. But the rule of thumb is simple. If it’s outdated and/or it hasn’t been worn in the last 3-6 months, then it is destined to be donated. Giving up your garments can be hard but think about it as making space for new and better ones. And everybody loves that.

Lastly we have the “I’m not sure” pile, which is the toughest one. But we’ll make it easier. If you are not sure about those clothes, it’s time to let them go. No outfit should ever make you feel like you’re on the fence. If you love it for the glamour or the comfort, then it should definitely be in the first pile.
Try it and see how it works out for you.
