How not to dress on a first date

Few occasions make people as nervous as they are on first dates. Lots of questions run through the mind like, what will the person be like? Will they like the same things? But one of the most important questions in most people’s minds is, “what will I wear?” First impressions last and even though it’s a question most people stress over, at least how we dress is something we can control. Here are a few tips on what not to wear on a first date.

  • Avoid tight-fitting clothing – Firstly, tight clothes are uncomfortable, and you don’t want to spend your first date fidgeting all over the place. That will be awkward for both you and your date. Secondly, tight fitting clothes may send the message to your date that you have low self esteem or are trying to gain attention in the wrong ways.
  • Avoid loose-fitting clothing – The opposite route of loose-fitting clothes does not work either. Loose-fitting clothes make you appear sloppy and disinterested in yourself, your date or both. You look like you didn’t put in an effort and like you don’t care at all.
  • Avoid dirty clothing – Of course this goes without saying. But dirty clothes include clothes that have been washed but which still have difficult to remove stains. Staines clothes make you appear messy and unkempt in live and in love. Find a gentle but tough-on-stains detergent which leaves the colours of your clothes bright like Toss. • Don’t wear what you wouldn’t normally wear – Dressing in a way that people that know you wouldn’t recognise is akin to fishing with the wrong bait. The last thing you want to do on a first date is to give the impression you are someone you are not. Be yourself but be a slightly more polished version on your first date.

Whatever you decide to wear on your first date, be sure to wear a smile and have a good time.
