Let’s get you sorted

Clean clothes will keep you feeling and smelling nice. Laundry is not just tossing and dipping clothes in a washing basket, it’s more than that. It’s knowing how to sort different clothes before washing so that you won’t damage or discolor them. Here are a few tips to help you clean your clothes.

Sort your items

It’s a good idea to check each item because you don’t want a situation where your orange socks end up discoloring your lovely white shirts.

  • Ensure you read the care instructions on each piece of clothing the first time you wash it.
  • Check again during the sorting process in case you forgot to read the care instructions.

Sort by color

Sort your clothes by their colors as this can prevent them from bleeding. It also prevents damage to white or lighter colored clothes. For bright popping colors, use Toss Bright.

  • Pile your white, light and dark clothing. Your white pile should be for socks, underwear, t-shirts and other white cotton items.
  • The light-colored pile should have colors like pink, lavender, light blue, light green and yellow. Your dark pile should have grey, black, navy, red and purple clothes.
  • You can separate denims into their own pile by either washing them individually or together with your dark pile.

Sort clothes by amount of dirt

  • Extremely dirty or stained laundry should be washed separately to avoid them dirtying other clothes. To remove tough stains, without fading your clothes, use Toss Blue.

Sort laundry into piles

Different clothes have different fabrics and textures. Sorting clothes in different piles can ensure everything from the quality of your delicate clothes to preventing lint from sticking to certain fabrics. If you want any of your fabrics to carry that irresistible fragrance, we recommend Toss Lavender.

  • Everyday wear: Cotton, linen, t-shirts, khakis, button down shirts, inner wear & socks
  • Sheets, towels, bedding etc.
  • Delicate clothes: Silks etc.
  • Denim
  • Woolens
  • Items that are stained or stinking
  • Items labeled dry clean
  • Performance fabrics: Swimwear and active wear

Should you have sensitive skin, we recommend Toss Sensitive, because it’s specially formulated to be kind on hands. Toss detergents wash out the dirt, not the colors.
