Kapa Oil Refineries Limited took a significant step toward transforming lives in Samburu County through the drilling of its first borehole in partnership with the Samburu Project in Subulei.
This initiative marked the beginning of a long-term commitment to addressing water scarcity in arid and marginalized communities, delivering reliable access to clean and safe drinking water to over 1,200 residents.
For years, families in Samburu have faced daily challenges in accessing water, often relying on unsafe sources located far from their homes. The completion of this first borehole brought immediate and tangible relief reducing the distance travelled to collect water and ensuring a consistent supply of clean water for household use, sanitation, and livestock, which remains a key source of livelihood in the region.
The impact of this project has been particularly transformative for women and children. By easing the burden of water collection, women gained valuable time to focus on caregiving, income-generating activities, and community engagement.
From a health perspective, access to clean water has played a critical role in reducing exposure to waterborne illnesses, especially among children under five. Improved hygiene and sanitation practices have led to healthier households and strengthened overall community well-being.

This milestone initiative aligns strongly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). By addressing water access at the source, the project also contributes to reducing inequalities faced by underserved communities, supporting SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
This initiative stands as a reflection of Kapa Oil’s purpose-driven approach to sustainability, where business success goes hand in hand with uplifting communities and securing a healthier, more resilient future for generations to come.
