Red Velvet Cake

Aaah red, the colour of love! There may be no better way to celebrate your Valentine’s than baking a red velvet cake…except ofcourse baking it with your better half 😉

INGREDIENTS

For the cake, you shall need:

Prestige margarine- 250g

Dark chocolate- 200g

Flour- 500g

Cocoa powder- 2 tablespoons

Caster sugar- 500g

Salt- ½ teaspoon

Baking soda- 1 teaspoon

Baking powder- 1 teaspoon

Eggs- 2

Vanilla essence- 1 teaspoon

A pinch of red food color

1 cup of milk

For the frosting, you shall need:

Vanilla essence- 2 tablespoon

Sifted icing sugar- 400g

Prestige margarine- 250g

Method

  1. Take a clean bowl and mix all your dry ingredients i.e. flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cocoa powder and caster sugar. In a separate bowl, take the eggs and prepare them in a bowl. Add the vanilla essence, red food color, milk and Prestige margarine. Melt the dark chocolate and mix that with the eggs mixture.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients with the other ingredients then let it rest. Grease the pan with some Prestige margarine.
  3. Make sure you first pre-heat the oven for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Spread your cake mixture on your preferred greased pan and put the pan in the oven. Let the cake cook for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
  5. Once done, let it cool off then begin your frosting.
  6. To make the frosting, all you have to do is beat Prestige margarine, then beat in the icing sugar and vanilla. Once done, spread the frosting on the cake then let it cool.
